10 Simple Self Care ideas for my first gen amigas

Amiga, I am here to remind you to slow down a little and take care of you. Here are a few simple ideas for you to reconnect with yourself and enjoy life, un poquito mas.

  1. Drink your agua amiga! A good measurement to follow is drinking half of your body weight in ounces. This is always on the top of my list; hydration is so important and vital for body function and mind clarity.
  2. 15 minutes of body movement every morning. At least 15 minutes, ideally 30 to get that heart pumping good and making you feel like the Diosa that you are. Just the fact that you wake up and get in a quick workout, i feel sets your day up for success. You feel confident and strong and ready to tackle the day.
  3. Cook your favorite Mexican or Latino dish, snack, or dessert. You know that one that always brings you beautiful childhood memories, even if it’s a sopita Maruchan con sal y tapatillo.
  4. Read a libro! My current read is “It ends with us” by Colleen Hoover. I have been reading for the last 3 months after not being able to get past the first 6 pages of a book since college! A good novel helps your mind go to a different space mentally, I never believed this until I found a book that I really connect with and enjoy.
  5. Join the 5 am club! It’s hard I still have not mastered it myself, but I’m definitely trying to wake up while the rest of the world is sleeping. The psychological effects of this habit are amazing, you feel brave you feel accomplished, you feel secretly better than everyone else that is still sleeping LOL. Also, the 5 AM club by Robin Sharma is my current audio book.
  6. Amigas & Cafecito! If you are anything like me, you are past the drinks after work era, and you prefer to grab a coffee con tu bestie on Saturday morning. This is your sign to call your bestie and schedule something on the books.
  7. Get outdoors and go hiking!!!! This is one that is still on my bucket list. The feeling of nature and freedom will center you and clear your mind from all the chaos that is, our daily hustle routine.
  8. Facemasks and Netflix! I actually really enjoy doing this with my 6 year old daughter we have gotten the cutest SpongeBob facemasks by HipDot from Ulta, but you can also find them on Amazon.
  9. Have lunch outdoors! I love a good lunch view on a workday. Something about allowing your eyes to have a wide scenery to see helps your mind get a break from sitting indoors in your office looking at a computer.
  10. Virtual therapy! OMG amiga, this has been a game changer for me for the last year and a half. I know many might say, “therapy is not for me” or “I don’t need therapy” but when I tell you I have learned so much about myself and about setting boundaries for own mental peace, believe me! Therapy is more accessible to us now than it was before and its also more normalized in the Latino community than it once was. Virtual therapy one or twice a month wont hurt you or your busy schedule, and girl if you have insurance, please APROVECHALO! Therapists becomes part of your support system. We should all have a support system.
