DYI Valentine’s Day heart crayons

Valentine’s day is just around the corner these DYI heart shaped crayons can be a hit for valentines day gift exchange at school if permitted (thanks covid) or simply just a DIY family fun craft to do at home, (Quarantine family craft days anyone)

I will admit, Valentina my 5 year old saw this on a YouTube video, and she wanted to try it out her self, I thought it would be fun to bring out the LOVE colors for this one. So here is how we did them so you can do them too. Parent must help for the oven use and smashing fun!

What you will need

A mold with heart shapes

6-10 red crayons

6-10 pink crayons

6-10 white crayons

A bowl

Warm water

Olive oil or your favorite essential oil

How to make your crayons

  1. Get a bowl of warm water and add 2-3 drops of oil (this helps to remove the paper from the crayons). Place crayons in a bowl and let sit for a few minutes. Paper will then peel of very easily! The white ones were a bit tough for us.
  2. Break crayons into different sizes to fit within the molds. We put the crayons in ziplocks and went to hammer with a meat tenderizer LOL.
  3. Arrange the crayon pieces into the baking molds. (you can purchase these adorable heart molds from Michael’s or I got mine on amazon)
  4. Bake in oven at 250° for 15-20 min or until completely melted
  5. Remove from the oven
  6. Let sit to cool off completely, then pop out of the tray, and enjoy!

Watch the reel here to see the coconuts have fun making these!
